Luke Vella's playing career ended with a spinal injury in the Bulldogs' 2014 Under-20s squad, so he coached instead, winning the Jersey Flegg premiership before joining the NRL coaching staff for 2024; he continues as an assistant under head coach Cameron Ciraldo into 2026.
